Garden update

Here's a tomato for Mommy! Now if I could only teach him to pick only the ripe ones...

A Charentais melon. How the heck do I know when this sucker is ripe? I can't wait!

Look at those beans go. The cucumbers are trying to take over the fence, too.

The vast cucumber sea... As you can see, I planted these too close together. It's making harvesting a bitch!

A volunteer pumpkin plant. Isn't that awesome? I think there will be one for each child! Thank you, universe.

I wanted to put more pictures on here, but Blogger isn't as generous as she used to be, so I'll have to post more later...

In other news, I stepped on a bumblebee a couple of days ago and my foot is huge and red and hot. So, I've been resting and eating lots of local organic watermelon (and other stuff, lest you think I'm monomealing). I have way too many cucumbers! If you need some, come on over... :)
And of course, the best news of the day is that my sweet little Salome is 6 years old today. Happy birthday, Sali-cakes.

Your garden looks amazing! :) The Charentais melon is heavenly...so cool that it's growing so well here in the Midwest. Maybe you can make a cool compress for your achy foot with the cucumber abundance? Hope you're feeling better soon, and that Salome enjoyed her birthday!

hey about that melon , i think its with like all of them , wait for the stem to get brown and curl and it should be good to go !

i stepped on a bee the other day too and my old hippie friend said to drop two alka selzers in waqter and soak the foot and i'll be darned if it didnt take the itch an pain away ..

Hi Kim and Jodi,

I have snacked on my first Charentais and it is worth the hype! But I am not going to get many of them... I'll explain in a post soon.

Jodi, I find that I don't step on bees if I just stay in the present moment and pay attention to what I'm doing. I have gotten stung a couple of times this summer and each time, I was not paying attention. LOL! Hopefully, I've learned my lesson, but if not, I'll definitely try the alkaseltzer trick!

Kim, I did try the cucumber and it felt nice.

Thanks,

Marjorie

Hi Marjorie!
Your baby is so cute. Can't believe it's been a year. I have always wondered about the melons because Anne Osborne raved about them. I don't plan to grow any but maybe I'll stumble across one someday.

Good to catch up with you!

Thank you, Connie. Nice to see you here. The Charentais are delicious and they smell divine! But I am only going to get 2 or 3 because of the weather and pressure from insects and other garden issues. I think I will try to grow them again, though. I would like to specially prepare the soil for my melons next year, and possibly grow them vertically on cattle panels (similar to my bean fence that you see in an earlier post).

I hope to have another garden post soon, but I'm so darn busy! :)
